Laundry Business.....Tips/Suggestions

Hi guys. 

I'm about to open up a laundry shop somewhere in Q.C.

I was hoping if you have any tips or suggestions on how to establish a successful laundry shop 

Heres an overview of my project.......

The place that I'm about to occupy was occupied by a laundry shop before(actually they are still operatinal until March 31)......They are leaving the place coz according to the owner of the laundry, they got a "Rent to Own" space in a very commercialized area......actually I find it really weird coz they already have regular clients/customers in the present area which means they are earning money.....then why leave the current area which gives you sure income? 

The place is along the main road of the area. Its about 20-25 sqm.....and has a monthly rent of P8,500 Quite low for a very commercialized area

When I expected the area for any competitors I spotted 3 other laundry shops in the area.....I inspected there prices and 2 out 3 where charging higher than my projected price.....a good sign if you would ask me

There are about 2 large villages in the area.....when I say large....I really mean LARGE

Any tips or suggestions from you guys would be appreciated

Mag observe ka don ng weekdays and weekends.  Para makita mo kung marami nga ang nagpapa laundry sa kanila.  At least makikita mo kung kumikita nga sila or hindi.  And also bibilin mo ba yong laundry shop as in yong mga gamit nila?

Actually according to their attendant, who has been there for almost 3 months palang, hindi naman daw sila nawawalan ng clients......Mukhan naman totoo sinasabi niya cause when I went there medyo marami namang mga clothes, blankets, stuff toys and barongs na nandun pa

Anyways I'll try to check the place later......I'll check out the competitors and try to get some more info on my space

Give out flyers dun sa two big villagers about your new shop.  If you can afford promos, the better.  Pick-up and delivery would also be an advantage if your competitors doesn't have one.  IF you can do the leaflet giving, the better.  That way you will have a personal touch when talking to people.  Pwede mo pang maging suki.

try mo rin magtanong tanong sa mga katabing establishments so you would also know kung may good or bad feedback ba sa laundry shop na io-occupy mo...

Hi guys...Mr. Clean, kumusta na bizniz mo?...yung bang mga suggestions na inadvice sa'yo nakatulong?..actually, I'm also starting a similar bizniz but there's a big difference...I'll start from scratch...eto ang situation:

ung prospective location, corner lot...I made a neigborhood survey at wala akong competitor...I think winner ako sa location...prospective market ko mga C-D crowd...walang condominium or villlage-type sa area...so I think baka maging socialized pricing ang pricing strategy ko (eh kasi marami sa area namin ang nag-ooffer na maglaba sa bahay)...kasi nga walang mayayaman sa lugar namin, kung meron man baka meron na silang sariling alundry machine o di naman magpa-laundry service sa'kin...pero mag-comment kayo dito, I may be wrong...

mga start-up bizniz qustions ko:  ilan ba ang ideal na washer at dryer ang dapat kong bilhin? ilan ang capacity: 5-6kg or 10-11 kg kaaagad? brand new ba o second-hand muna?...mas ok ba na seperate yung washer at dryer or kumuha ako ng twin-tub?...alin ang mas ok, frontloader or top loader yung washing machine ko?...should I stick to branded detergents (e.g., Ariel, Tide, ect.) or ok lang i-consider ung mga less-popular brands?

Hi Mr. Clean,
If I may add, you should register to the DTI first before you make your logo, kasi baka masayang effort mo. In my case, ( i own a laundry shop) I made several alternates when i went to DTI, kasi nga ang dami nang laundry shops.
Also, your decision of continuing the business is right because no further marketing is needed, since may existing customers na sila. Palalakasin mo na lang ung shop, in other words, susungkitin mo ung customers sa kabilang shop.

Riso printing is preferred for your fliers, coz its cheaper. that's what i used when I was just starting.
You should also have a system ,para kahit iwan mo ung laundry mo sa staff mo lang, d ka mawawalan...

question lang ha. kung matagal na yang laundry shop sa area bat mag flyer ka pa? 

my suggestion would be to ask for the financials of the shop. baka kasi lugi sila kahit merong mga damit sa loob baka loss leaders yung product na yun. sa amin kasi 3 laundromat pareho di na ko pupunta dun kasi sinira nila yung barong namin at ayaw pa umamin yung isang shop gusto ko pa nga upakan eh kasi sinisi yung ermats ko na may dumi na raw yung barong nung dinala namin. 
so di na ko papa dry cleaning dun pero kung mapipilitan baka yung normal laundry try ko.

point ko lang, baka subsidized ng ibang produkto yung iba pa nyang produkto at baka nalulugi na pala sya.  just ask if you can take a look at their financial statements kahit gaano ka-barbaric ang format nyan.

also try to compute for possible sales kasi syempre may lean and strong months yan.  probably pag tagulan strong sila.

suggestion ko mag start ka lang muna  1 pair of washer and dryer then kung matatambakan ka na ng customers saka ka na ulit magdagdag ng units.

yong first unit mo mas ok kung 10-11 kgs para pag may nagpa laundry sayo ng comforters magakakasya sa washer mo. then kung magdadagdag ka ng units don ka bumili ng 5-6kgs para naman sa mga nagpapalaba ng pakonti konti.

I would still suggest a brand new units para less maintenance mo...may kakilala kasi akong may laundry na bumili ng 2nd hand units tapos babae pa sya at walang kaalam alam sa repair ng machines, ayon kinakain lang ng maintenance cost yong income nya.

pag twin tub, di ba magastos sa kuryente ang dryer? yong LPG dryers ang bilhin mo.

di ko pa nasubukan ang front loader na washer pero sabi nila mas matipid daw ito sa tubig, yon nga lang mas nakakagasgas daw ng damit. I dont know how true.

Just use  commercial laundry detergents, 10x ang lower ng cost sa branded like tide or ariel.

   hi ka entreps...pinagiisipan ko rin mag laundry buss. Gusto ko sana malapit sa bahay lang yun commrcial space na uupahan ko..Gagawin klang parang pickup station tapos sasamahan ko TUBIG naman...parang  drop off point lang ako......dba tipid!!! puhunan ko 5-gallon plastic containers... Tapos Sa bahay kna lang labhan yun mga damit dba...residential rate ng electric and water ko...Ano sa tingin nyo?

Yong laundry shop sa Sampaloc maraming nagpapalaba pero lumipat ng puesto.  Kasi kinakain yong kita nila ng Rent, Water at Electric bills.  Rent is 13T+, water 13T+ din, at yong electric 10T+.  Grabe pag commercial ang mga fees mo, kaya kami nga sa baking center nangangapa na rin sa rent at utilities.
