Bazaar & event organizers: no governing body?
« on: September 29, 2009, 11:31:54 pm »
As a young working mothers, my sister and I have been looking for alternative ways to earn a living, and hopefully shift to full time business instead of remaining employed. This is for better quality time for our growing families. So we have begun joining bazaars the past 2 years. However,we realized that not all bazaars are worth joining, no matter how big and "rep*table" the organizer seem to be.We  just noticed that this "bazaars & events" is a relatively new industry, thus ungoverned. maybe the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) need to also monitor closely how event and bazaar organizers conduct their events, since we've had not so ideal experiences with some, like:
1. Non-issuance of Official Receipt  to exhibitors
2. There are times events have very few visitors, exhibitors or both
3. No Refund.
4. "Full-payment before event" policy does not give exhibitors the edge to complaint against or go after the organizer in case of problems (such as in #2, complaints about facilities or agreement, space allocation, concept lock-out, power outages and the like.

The "full-payment before event" policy only benefits the pockets of the organizers while us, the very micro etrepreneurs, go home disenchanted.

Thank you and more power to Entrepreneur!

Bianca

I've joined a couple of bazaars myself but so far so good. Maybe it's the organizer you should be wary about and ofcourse the location. I only try to join the last weekend before Christmas, it's chaos.

Apart from the usual scams from blogshops, SafeBlogShopper would like to bring your attention to a case that happened in the local forums lately.
Starting from 19 Jan, a feedback was posted against Bazaar Indulgence for holding stall rentals in a bazaar but refund did not take place when the event was cancelled.
According to the thread, most of the participants paid $160 for each stall rented in Far East Plaza. However, the event organizer changed the bazaar date from 23-24 Jan to 16-17 Jan. Subsequently, they cancelled the bazaar two days before the event, reason being unable to secure a space in Far East Plaza.

Entrepreneurs usually have leadership skills, drive, creativity and an extreme desire to succeed in their own business. These individuals are also risk takers. People who do not possess at least some of these traits may not have what it takes to become an entrepreneur.

Children need not change schools and you don't have to look after another house. Other reason for a person wanting to sell his house is he might be in debt, he might have a lower income now or there might be a break up in relationship. His son or daughter might be going in for further studies for which money might be needed or he might have planned a dream holiday

Close to Covent Garden and hotels in London is the Lyceum Theatre, currently home to the Lion King. Originally an animated film by Disney, the Lion King has taken the theatre by storm, providing a colourful and vibrant stage production that the whole family will love. The play keeps to the original story line, but uses unique puppets and costumes to animate the story and bring it to life on stage.
