Mommies find a way to earn while taking care of babies

When bosom friends Monica Eleazar and Denise Gonzales started Indigo Baby in 2007, they both wanted a business that would allow them to earn and at the same time take care of their babies.
With P200,000 in initial capital, they started the business that would create a line of specialized products for babies.
From their beginnings as a participant at the Rockwell bazaar, they have since grown to have their own showroom in Makati City. Their products include baby oils, bibs, breast-feeding ponchos, gels and other products for babies.
To reach a wider market, they decided to go online and launched their website www.indigobabyshop.com. Aside from their website they also have a
Multiply account (indigomanila.multiply.com). Their strategy to go online has paid off very well, with online sales accounting for most of their sales. The
websites allow them to reach clients nationwide and overseas.
The success of their
online operations has given rise to inquiries regarding reselling Indigo Baby products. At first, Eleazar and Gonzales did not want to open their products to resellers. However, given the amount of inquiries they received, and presented with the opportunity to help others augment their income, the business partners relented.
Today, there are some 30 Indigo Baby resellers, some of whom are abroad. To become an Indigo Baby reseller, one must sign an agreement with the owners, entitling them to 10- to 30-percent discounts on the products. They must then purchase 50 pieces of Indigo Baby items that they can sell at prices as tagged.
Eleazar and Gonzales evaluate each reseller every two months -- a reseller should be able to sell P5,000 worth of products during that period.
Indigo Baby has also expanded its line of products to include other brands as well. They now sell toys that promote open-ended play (Ekobloks), diaper bags (Momease), cloth diapers (Tushy Wushy), and one-piece garments for babies (sayoneword), among others.
