In any relationship, professonal or otherwise, conflicts arise. Franchising guru Armando Bartolome tells us how a dispute between a franchisor and a franchisee is settled.
Q: How are disputes between franchisors and franchisees usually settled in the Philippines?
A: Disputes are first and foremost settled between the franchisor and the concerned franchisee. On the basis of having a healthy dialogue, most franchisors would want to settle issues at the earliest possible time. On the second level, if communication between the Franchisor and Franchisee is not possible then an arbitration is called in.
This process involves both parties getting an objective party to listen and weigh pros and cons.As last resort, a judicial process is called in to settle the issues.
Armando "Butz" O. Bartolome is currently President of GMB Franchise Developers, the pioneer franchise development company in the country and is behind the growth and expansion of over 200 local companies.
