COMPANY BACKGROUND (to read their amazing success story, click here)

Who started the business: Sisters Milagros and Clarita Leelin and their sister-in-law Doris Leelin founder of Goldilocks; Lin Deres, franchise relations manager of Goldilocks

What it does: Goldilocks is a restaurant and bakery that now has a total of 250 branches – nationwide, 19 stores in the U.S. and two in Canada.

When: The Leelins started their business in 1966.

How did they start?: The Leelins opened a small bakeshop on Pasong Tamo Avenue in Makati (now a city) after Milagros and Clarita had dabbled on their hobby of making chiffon cakes and decorating cakes for many years. They named the bakeshop Goldilocks, the character in the classic children’s story, on the suggestion of another sister of theirs, Maria Flor. They liked that name not only because it was easier for children and their mothers to remember but also because it suggested luck and prosperity.
