Security devices can cost P2,500 and higher, depending on your budget, need, area size, and scope of operations, he says.

Here are some of the most common security devices and their uses:

 

• Security cameras: They’re installed for monitoring and recording purposes. The information that these cameras gather can serve as evidence in aid of criminal prosecution.

 

• GSM burglar alarm: The control panel automatically sends SMS to your cellphone when infrared and magnetic sensors are activated by incidents of potential intrusion.

 

• Biometrics access control: This features three types of secured locking methods, including fingerprint, password and magnetic RFID Card for better protection and for securing certain areas within the building or business location.

 

• GPS tracking device: A navigational device that uses GPS technology to track down vehicles. When the machine has the longitude and latitude, users can easily pinpoint the location through Google Earth for free.

 

• Spying gadgets: These are typically high-resolution cameras embedded into everyday or commonplace items that are then placed in strategic areas. These devices are best for undercover assignments, evidence collection, hidden investigations and surveillance monitoring.

 

• Fire alarm system: This is designed to detect the unwanted presence of fire and smoke by monitoring environmental changes associated with combustion.

 

Mondejar lists down several sound reasons for investing in these gadgets:

1. Deter crime. A closed-circuit television or CCTV can help pinpoint how a crime happened, or even to spot it as it happens. But if people know they’re being watched, it can actually discourage them from wrongdoing, thus preventing crimes from occurring in the first place.

2. Ensure employee satisfaction. Footage from CCTV cameras can reveal what’s it like to be part of your workforce. If you have that knowledge, then you can use it to streamline your business and improve working conditions for your staff.

3. Settle disputes. If a client complains about your service or one of your personnel, it can be hard to know who’s telling the truth. Customers can claim they’ve been short-changed or they were tricked into buying defective or inferior items. But with CCTV, you can review the incident and decide accordingly.

4. Assist in record-keeping. CCTV cameras also act as an automated system for keeping records. Using the footage, you can prove to clients and check yourself that products were shipped and/or deployed properly.

5. Inspire confidence. CCTV can also be useful for customers themselves by creating a feeling of safety. It can allow you to spot crimes against customers and even accidents at the work place.

 

Despite significant assistance from technology, Mondejar underscores the need for human vigilance. These devices “still need to be supervised by a trained security officers that have an IT background [so they can handle] maintenance [as well as] troubleshoot and upgrade devices. Crime never sleeps, and these devices must be fully functional to get…optimum performance.”
