How did Cebu Pacific become the top carrier in Davao City?
Jul 27, 2011
Cebu Pacific announced today that they have now the biggest market share in flights between the nation’s capital and its southern financial hub, Davao City.
Based on its second quarter performance for this year, the Gokongwei led airline cornered 44 percent of the local market that flies between Manila and Davao, or a total of 318,694 passengers.
Looking at the way the airline is run, it comes as no surprise that Cebu Pacific has grabbed the top spot. To further understand how Cebu Pacific grabbed the top spot, look at these facts:
1. Cebu Pacific has the most number of flights to and from Davao. On the average, the budget airline has 45 flights weekly between Manila and Davao, and 24 flights weekly between Cebu and Davao.
2. The airline flew most of its flight with a passenger load of 85 percent.
3. Aside from having the most number of flights, the airline also offered one of the lowest airfares for the destination.
4. Additional flights between Manila and Davao are also in the drawing board, ensuring that the airline maintains its market share in the southern hub.
CEB currently operates 10 Airbus A319, 15 Airbus A320 and 8 ATR-72 500 aircraft. By the end of 2011, CEB will be operating a fleet of 37 aircraft – with an average age of less than 3.5 years – one of the most modern aircraft fleets in the world. Between 2012 and 2021, Cebu Pacific will take delivery of 23 Airbus A320 and 30 Airbus A321neo aircraft orders, and 2 Airbus A320 aircraft on operating lease agreements.
