10 money apps for entrepreneurs

By KC Calpo

Feb 09, 2012

The significance of keeping a close watch on your business' finances cannot be stressed enough, especially if you're just starting out and don't have enough resources and manpower. This can be difficult when you spend more time outside the office than in it − and the expenses, paperwork keep on piling up. Thankfully, you have your pick of both personal and enterprise-level apps that let you monitor the funds coming in and out of your company.

These apps have several things in common. Besides helping you organize both single and repeated transactions, they also provide you with custom transaction reports, budgeting functions, currency/tax converters, and the ability to store data based on photos of receipts. But not all apps are made equal. While a number of the apps listed here can be used for both personal and professional purposes, some are made specifically for small businesses − and allow for bosses to approve or reject certain transactions and reimbursements through their mobile phones, as well as account for travel and miscellaneous expenses.

Some of these free, freemium and paid Android, Apple iOS and cross-platform apps have the U.S. dollar as the default currency, and several functions don't necessarily apply to the Philippine setting. Then again, having them installed on your trusty mobile phone is much better than having nothing at all. (Which brings us to one of the items on our entrepreneurial wishlist: an app that includes specific considerations for Philippine regulations!)
