Pitch your talent
Nov 09, 2011
These days finding a job can be tough particularly with increased competition from other job seekers. Indeed these days coming from a good school and having good grades are no longer good jobs. Because of this jobseekers are now being forced to employ more and more creative methods to advertise themselves to potential employers.
Some of the more creative ways jobseekers use to make themselves more noticeable to potential employers. Some methods include catchy resumes and video resumes. Others use networking, the internet among other methods. But all these methods are alike in the sense that they employ a shotgun approach your resume or your application is lumped together with other resumes. This means that there is a chance that you won’t be noticed. To solve this problem internet job site Jobstreet is offering a service called Pitch Your Talent.com (PYT) to allow job seekers to better target their prospective employers.
PitchYourTalent.com is designed to provide an alternative way of recruitment. If regular jobsites are where employers advertise for jobs, PYT is where candidates advertise their skills. By allowing the applicant to do the advertising, PYT provides the easiest way for talents to stand out to all potential employers. Rafael Vicente of Jobstreet says “We believe that this will be the most productive way for talented people to get their next job - just go through a few simple steps to setup your profile and it will be accessible to all potential employers with internet access."
Aside from merely advertising the employee’s skill PYT also allows employees to showcase their talent to jobs not limited to the traditional full or part time jobs. Vicente says "We are encouraging anybody who has a talent or unique skill that he/she wants to promote to the public – whether for consultancy engagements, full time employment, freelance work, project-based contracts or what have you. Especially in difficult times like we are facing today, more and more people are open to pursuing part-time or non-traditional work arrangements. We hope that PYT will pave the way for enabling this segment of the job market to grow further."
Vicente says that there are three steps pitch, search and connect for the site to match jobseeker with employers. Pitch involves the talent setting up a profile focused on skills & competencies he/she wants to highlight. These are then searched by the site to ensure a better match when searched by employers. Connect allows employers to talk to the applicant through the PYT messaging system. All communication exchanges are done within PYT, to ensure that privacy of users are protected. Talents are not required to share their contact information - they may choose to share it, or keep it hidden. The combination of pitch search and connect allows flexibility in the way people present and talk to employers.
Currently offering a free one year subscription to the service for a limited time after its launch PYT is expected to be a major way for people to get jobs. PYT offers a good opportunity to jobseekers by allowing them to be more creative in the way they present themselves to employers and that instead of going to the employers they come to you. The site allows you to put anything on your profile from portfolio samples to blogs and can be indexed by search engines allowing global viewing. After being launched a couple of weeks ago take up of the site has gotten good pickups of as much as 3,000 signups per day. It is expected that pickups will grow exponentially in the coming weeks.
