For the month of October, will be featuring businesses that saw the school spirit as a business opportunity. And what venue is there for the school spirit to shine than the annual University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) meet?

For this week’s feature,  we look at an entrepreneurial couple who started their own line of personalized accessories. The brand called Piesa also sells unique school-inspired espadrilles that range from Php 800  to Php 1, 500 a pair.

"We wanted to show how technology meets tradition.  The shoes are made by skilled Marikina shoemakers who have been in the industry for years while the designs are digitally done, " says owner, Paula Dimaano. "I am from Marikina, the shoe capital of the Philippines, while my husband Bryan is part of a family owned business that specializes on corporate award products and giveaways. We integrated the resources and technology that’s why we came up with the idea of doing our own line of personalized apparel.  The first UAAP line was created with “wearing your stripes” as creative peg."

Currently the brand is still in its pilot run, but public response to their products has been positive. The Ateneo inpired line is already available in A Shop.
