Filipino ingenuity shines in convertible-bed design

Filipino ingenuity in product development is showcased with multi-functional bed

In today’s world, where houses are smaller and condominium units are more and more compact, the need for versatile household items is even greater. But can you imagine living in a nine-square-meter unit, sans the bathroom, and still be able to have a bed, a sofa, a dining table, kitchen, a study and even a vanity set? Maybe not. Filipino furniture designer and producer, Nitz Furniture, an active participant in trade shows hosted by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions of the Department of Trade and Industry, shows ingenuity in coping with the times by creating a convertible bed.

What makes the convertible bed a piece de resistance in functionality? It can be turned into a bed, a sofa, a dining area, and even a bed and console. Ingenious, isn\\\'t it?

One more thing, the bed is made from locally sourced eco-friendly products like farm grown wood, water lily stems and local fabric.

While it may not be the first of its kind, the convertible bed showcases the ability of the Filipino craftsman to the challenge of compact space and modern living. The innovative bed was developed by Nitz Furniture with the assistance of the Product Development and Design Center of the Philippines.

The company started in 1978 but had to close down in the 1980\\\'s due to financial setbacks. The company re-opened in 1995 with an initial 20 workers. In 2006, the Nitz furniture sought the assistance of the Design Center to further develop their products. On that same year, the company was able to sell P3 million worth of products in a single trade show.

The innovative bed is priced at P36,000 with a native lighting divider.
