The British Council in partnership with the Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF) is happy to announce the call for applications for this year’s I am a Changemaker Social Enterprise Ideation Camp from October 23 to 29. The camp aims to bring together young people from ages 18-28 who would like to explore their creative side while offering a space to exchange, foster thinking and collaboration about groundbreaking social innovation through social enterprise. Ideas generated during the camp that best fit the Changemaker criteria gets seed funding of P100,000 each for implementation.
The camp program includes workshops and training sessions under British social entrepreneur Paul Harrod from Bristol Together and Vince Rapisura and Edwin Salonga from the Social Enterprise Development Partnerships Inc (SEDPI).
Paul Harrod is the chief executive of Bristol Together CIC - a new social enterprise partnership creating employment for ex-offenders through the repair and refurbishment of empty properties. Bristol Together is highly effective and was voted the Social Enterprise of the year for 2011. Paul was also the co-founder of Aspire, which began in Bristol in 1999. He is a non-executive director of the Restore Trust and the Bristol Enterprise Development Fund and is a strong advocate of Reading Buddies and after school clubs for children in deprived areas of the city.
He has a wide experience of supporting innovation in the health and public sector service delivery working with managers to implement practical and effective solutions to improve planning, management and performance.
Vince and Edwin are social entrepreneurs with a goal to change the way organizations manage and handle their money. Together they manage the SEDPI Group of Social Enterprises, which provides innovative capacity building and alternative finance services to microfinance institutions and social enterprises.
They have a reputation for turning around ailing organizations and creating solutions for their growth. Vince and Edwin’s broad exposure here and abroad make them experts at developing targeted interventions that are necessary for any organizations’ growth and survival. With their leadership, SEDPI grew its investment portfolio to P125 million since its establishment in 2004. As trainers, they both receive excellent marks for creating a fun learning environment through their infusion of real-world insights. Vince and Edwin are both faculty members at the Ateneo De Manila University.
Aside from training sessions, camp participants will also get the chance to visit existing social enterprises and hear talks from young people who have put up their own businesses.
