International Food Expo to open on May 12

Business opportunities in the food industry awaits you
By Carlo P. Mallo |

There is no business like the food business. With love for food as something innate in every Filipino, it comes as no surprise that food is one of the most profitable products in the country.  The 2011 International Food Expo (IFEX) Philippines promise to "unlock an exciting array of food finds" that cater not just to the Filipino palate but to global tastes as well.

Aside from the food, one highlight of the expo is its "show within a show" concept wherein there will be six pocket expos during the three-day run of the event. One of these is Mindanao: Best of the Islands Food Show , that will showcase a cornucopia of flavors from Southern Philippines. With its fertile plains, bountiful waters and perfect weather, Mindanao has been dubbed as the country’s food basket. The food show aims to showcase the island as a food haven by bringing the exotic flavors and colorful lifestyle of Mindanao to the halls of SMX.

The 8th IFEX Philippines will also stage the Berdelicious! Organic Gourmet Food Festival. The organizers of the event said that it is "an answer to the growing awareness and interest in all things natural and organic, this co-located event features certified organic, natural and herbal products, food supplements, as well as specialty and vegetarian foods."

This year’s partner region is home to the tuna capital of the country and the vast pineapple plantations. Socsargen, which stands for South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Saranggani, and General Santos City, will showcase the resources of their region in their pavilion.

IFEX Philippines will run from May 12 to May 14 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. Exhibit doors are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. An entrance fee of P100 is charged per visitor.
