As more and more Filipinos use the Internet, employers are increasingly finding the Web an effective recruitment tool for filling their job vacancies. More and more companies are realizing that the best source of qualified labor for white-collar job opportunities, particularly in contact centers and technology-related firms, is to be found online at even lower cost. Thus, online recruitment has been rising steadily and is now about to eclipse traditional print advertising for white-collar jobs.

Philips Yu, sales director of Philippines, says that the local online job market is indeed booming. His company runs one of the top online job recruitment services in the country, with a user database that currently stands at upwards of 1.8 million people, or 10 percent of the total Internet users in the country. It also counts on its sister sites in Malaysia, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Japan, and Thailand to expand its job listings to a regional instead of a simply domestic basis.

“Everybody is going online,” Yu says. “And with the current economic slowdown, we expect more people to start posting their re sumes online to look for jobs, as there is still a demand for fresh labor particularly from the BPO sector.” has a client base of over 12,000 locally based companies, including 70 percent of the country’s top 1,000 firms. Its online postings represent a good cross-section of industries for prospective applicants. The company says that every month, 150 new companies post job listings in, further adding to its client database.

“The advantage of posting jobs online is the convenience it offers to companies,” Yu explains. “A company only has to upload a job requirement and our job matching service automatically notifies qualified people in our user database. This ensures a more targeted and quality-based approach to job recruitment.”

Aside from the large pool of applicants and job postings that it provides, offers services that are affordable to big and small companies alike. Yu says: “Compared to traditional media like print advertising, online posting with is so much cheaper and more effective. Because of specific job matching services, it can produce better results by giving companies a targeted audience.”

Daily, generates an estimated online traffic of 800,000 jobseekers and sourcing companies. Yu says this makes a highly cost-effective recruitment medium. “We present a good value-for-money proposition because we can give a jobseeker access to 12,000 companies, and sourcing companies access to 1.8 million candidates,” he explains. “We are aiming to grow the number of our subscribers to 3 million jobseekers this year, and we are confident we will be able to reach that number.”
