Top Filipino retail operator expands in China

SM Prime is also scheduled to open in SM City Olongapo in Zambales and SM Marketmall in Dasmariñas

If there are two things that you should think about as the Henry Sy-led SM Prime Holdings, Inc. open their fourth shopping mall in China today, it would be:

First, SM Prime is undoubtedly the leader in the development of shopping malls in the country as  they have now accumulated a total gross floor area of 5.7 million square meters for all its 45 malls, four of which are in China.

Second, the opening of SM Prime’s fourth mall in China shows that Filipino expertise, or Filipino-Chinese for that matter, is at par with the global standards, if not better. “It also confirms that the Filipinos have the needed knowledge, skills, and talents to compete in a global arena,” Henry Sy said.

SM City Suzhou, which is located in the metropolis’ Wuzhong District, has a gross floor area of 72,552 square meters.  Eighty nine percent of the leasable floor area has already been awarded to various tenants like Vanguard Hypermarket, SM Department Store, KFC, Jack & Jones, and Wanda Cinema.

For the rest of 2011, SM Prime is scheduled to open in SM City Olongapo in Zambales and SM Marketmall in Dasmariñas.
