Twice the charm: The Old and New in Binondo

Take a look at the country\\\'s original Central Business District
By |

Binondo means business. Since the first generation of ethnic Chinese immigrants set foot on this side of Manila, the district has witnessed businesses and culture flourish for more than two centuries.

Regarded as the old Makati, the modern day’s business district, Binondo proves that it still has its charm. For one, it is considered as one of Manila’s more expensive real state.

Aside from nearby Divisoria, Binondo is also home to numerous wholesale and retail suppliers, sources of raw materials and products for business owners from all over the country. The country’s most prestigious financial institutions likewise trace their roots in a street formerly tagged as “Wall Street of the Philippines.”

This photo series showcases what are preserved and what has changed in Manila’s Chinatown that is Binondo.
