Baliwag Lechon: Roasted chicken means good business

Sun Business, the enterprise unit of mobile network Sun Cellular, and Entrepreneur.com.ph picked 10 from some of the most promising franchising opportunities in the country. Here is one of those ‘Sun Business Ambassadors.’

Dwight and Dolores Salcedo wanted to jumpstart a new business so they can have additional source of income. Using their combined savings, the couple decided to put up a food business. During that time (1980s), local consumers were starting to have a fascination for roasted chicken.

That was when Baliwag Lechon Manok was established. The first store was opened in November, 1985 in Project 8, Quezon City. From there, the brand has steadily grown to become a popular lechon manok business with a growing chain, consisting of over 200 stalls scattered nationwide.

Baliwag Lechon has become an iconic Filipino brand within almost three decades of delivering quality roasted food and a few other local dishes to consumers. The company is continuously innovating to introduce new products that would satisfy customers’ cravings for quick but flavorful meals.

Aside from lechon manok and roasted pork liempo (belly), Baliwag Lechon is also offering other top favorite products within its menu. Those include crispy pata, chicharon, and atsara (pickled green papaya relish).

As a business opportunity

Moreover, Baliwag Lechon has also become an attractive business opportunity. It is available for franchising. To become its franchisee, an initial investment is required. It covers the franchising fee, initial working capital, and store/stall construction costs.

Preferred sites of stores are busy commercial, residential, and retail areas with apparent high foot and vehicle traffic. Specific floor area requirement for each store ranges from 4-6 square meters to about 90-200 square meters.

The company offers a variation of business models for franchising. Initial franchise fee varies, depending on the store size. It ranges from P250,000 to P750,000. Other investment considerations are leasehold improvements, equipment, furniture and fixtures, business licenses, and allowances for trainees during initial training.

Other fees

There are other franchising charges, including royalty fee (5% of gross sales plus value-added tax or VAT), marketing support fund (2% of gross sales plus VAT), and local branch marketing fund (1%of  gross sales plus VAT). The initial franchise term is up to five years.

Interested applicants will be invited to attend one of Baliwag Lechon’s franchising information seminars, where they will have the opportunity to meet the franchising team and obtain information about the franchise capital requirements. This is a great opportunity to raise more inquiries and learn more about franchising.

There will be specific franchise terms to be given out, so it is best to make proper consultations and considerations before actually applying for a franchise. Check out its free online directory listing here .
