Not just once, not just twice. But six times in a row. Ranking as one of the top franchise companies for six consecutive years, Summit Media’s Entrepreneur Philippines recognizes Kumon Philippines, Inc. as the sole winner for the Franchise Hall of Fame Award this 2012. As Entrepreneur Philippines gathers the men and women behind the leading franchise companies to recognize their significant contribution to the Philippine economy since 2006, Kumon consistently gains distinct credit because of its commitment to support its franchisees and dedication to provide quality service to the Filipinos.
The company’s drive to excellence is inspired by how it all began, through a father’s commitment to help his own son improve in school. The eager father was Toru Kumon. Indeed, the Kumon Method of Learning was born out of a father’s love for his son, Takeshi Kumon. Also a math teacher, Toru Kumon believed in developing a child’s academic ability. But more importantly, he also believed a child’s life skills like discipline, perseverance, the ability to self-learn and a sense of achievement must also be developed. The method was later on shared to other children in their community, with Takeshi as its first student. From then on, Kumon made its way to benefit more children through the recommendations of successful students and parents who have experienced the Kumon Method.
In the Philippines, there are now more than 50,000 Filipino children enrolled and benefitting from this unique method of learning, nationwide, adding to the millions of students studying in Kumon Centers worldwide.
Kumon’s driving force
Kumon shares the same value that Filipino parents have for education. As parents aim for their children to achieve their goals, live their life to the fullest, face real life challenges confidently, and discover new things on their own, Kumon provides opportunities in every Kumon Center for children to experience these. While parents are happy and fulfilled to see their children excel academically, Kumon share the same fulfillment as they become a witness to the development of many children towards a brighter future in the society.
