The 25th installment of the annual National Retail Conference organized by the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) is taking place on August 9 and 10 at the SMX Convention Center at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

With more than 800 major retailers, CEOs and other top-level executives expected to join the expo and over 3,000 expected participants at the conference, the event aims to bring together key movers and shakers of the retail industry in the country to discuss the current state of the industry and how to prepare for the imminent changes to be brought by developments in technology.

Twenty-five confirmed speakers are set to take the stage during the two-day event. Here are a few key reasons to attend what is considered the biggest and longest-running retail industry event in the country:

1. Divine the future of online shopping

If you’re looking to participate in the e-commerce community, attending this conference will give you valuable insights on the growing industry.

In his keynote speech scheduled on August 9, “globally recognized author and retail futurist” Wijnand Jongen will discuss the dynamics of online shopping and the possibilities of how it will progress in the future. His speech is titled “The End of Online Shopping,” which is also the title of his bestselling book about the future of retail in a world that is always connected.

Jongen is the co-founder and executive committee chairman of Ecommerce Europe, an organization gathering 20 national e-commerce associations and representing more than 75,000 e-commerce companies in Europe.

2. Discover trends in the retail industry

To keep participants up to date on the current state of retailing, Forum for International Retail Association Executives (FIRAE) Chairman Massimo Volpe will talk about “The Global State of Retailing” in his keynote speech on the second day of the conference.

On top of this, Nielsen Philippines Managing Director Patrick Cua will give a separate talk on the “Five Megatrends in the Supermarket Industry & its Impact to the Filipino Consumers.”

There will also be a panel discussion on entertainment retail to be led by Arianne Kader Cu, country head of Viu Philippines; Raffy Prats, president and general manager of Timezone; Ina Quiogue, head of retailing and licensing of ABS-CBN Corp.; and Cookie Bartolome, president and CEO of KidZania Manila.

3. Understand how technology is changing retailing

Since the event’s theme is “Reinventing Retail,” one of the key goals of the event is to discuss the how technology is transforming the industry, and how entrepreneurs can make it through the rising digitization of businesses.

Two breakout sessions on Day 1 will be about the future of supermarkets. Beijing BingoBox Technology founder and CEO Chilam Chen will give a talk on the “Retail of the Future: Unmanned Supermarket,” while Nuvem Managing Director James Ronald Cruz will discuss “Reinventing Supermarket Sector Through Digital Transformation.”

The forum will also touch on the increasing use in social media and its role in building retail businesses in this day and age. Shayne Garcia-Madamba, chief digital officer of Havas Media Ortega, will give a talk titled “Path to Purchase: Using Social Media to Drive E-Commerce Conversions.”

4. Learn about fashion and how to build personal brand

Lastly, to ultimately succeed in building a brand and survive in the industry, an aspiring retail entrepreneur must be aware of how the industry works, as well as the notable people in it.

Nika Diwa, a consultant and stylist, will speak about “Building You as a Brand” on the second day of the conference. This will be followed by a talk on how “Fashion Can Be Sustainable and Sustainability Can Be Fashionable” by Xin Yi Wong, sustainability manager of H&M Singapore.
