It is said that the Shanghai Disney Resort would be bigger than Disneylands in Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Leaning in is hard

Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg posted on her Facebook account Friday, May 6 that single moms have been leaning in for a long time—“out of necessity and a desire to provide the best possible opportunities for their children.”

Sandberg is the author of Lean In, a book about business leadership and development, issues with the lack of women in government and business leadership positions, and feminism. She herself became a single mom and a widow when her husband, Dave Goldberg died on May 1, 2015 due to head trauma after he fell from a treadmill.

“In Lean In, I emphasized how critical a loving and supportive partner can be for women both professionally and personally—and how important Dave was to my career and to our children’s development. I still believe this. Some people felt that I did not spend enough time writing about the difficulties women face when they have an unsupportive partner or no partner at all. They were right.”

“I will never experience and understand all of the challenges most single moms face, but I understand a lot more than I did a year ago,” she further wrote.

Swiss jeweler buys rights to sell 404-carat rough diamond

De Grisogono SA jeweler bought the rights to market a 404-carat rough diamond from Dubai trader Nemesis International DMCC, Bloomberg reported on Sunday, May 8.

The stone was discovered at Lucapa Diamond Co.’s Lulo mine in Angola. The company announced in February that it sold a 404-carat diamond for $22.5 million. The stone is the world’s 27th-biggest and should take six months to cut.

On May 4, Forbes reported that auction house Sotheby is offering a 1,109-carat rough diamond in a standalone auction in London on June 29.

Named the “Lesedi la Rona,” it is considered the largest rough diamond in existence today, the auction house said.

The gem, unearthed in November 2015 by Lucara Diamond Corp. (a Canadian diamond mining company), at its Karowe mine in Botswana, is estimated to sell for more than $70 million.

Australian election

If the Philippines is having its election on Monday, Australia scheduled theirs on Saturday, July 2.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced a double dissolution election, a special type of election permitted under the Australian Constitution. This election aims to resolve deadlocks between the House of Representatives and the Senate, and once the conditions o (called a trigger) are satisfied, the government can request the governor-general to dissolve both houses of Parliament and call for a full election.

“It is the first double dissolution poll in just on 30 years, launching an eight-week election campaign – one of the longest in Australian history,” wrote.

2016 PH election results

The Commission on Elections launched on May 8 a website to track the results of the May 9 election.

The website,, will have the results in each of the more than 90,000 polling precincts.

“The ERs (election results) contain all the results from the president down to the last candidate. Which means, we can already total them even if we would not announce it,” COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez said in a media briefing.

He added the website democratizes the count so anyone predict the winners.

To safeguard against trending, the website will not be providing an overall total number of votes as well as ranking among candidates.

The website will go live after voting precincts close on Monday, 5 pm. Voting started at 6 am. – Lynda C.  Corpuz
