China Plans To Offer Up To $1,000 Salary For 100,000 OFWs

You might need to teach some English while you're at it

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is studying a proposal from the Chinese government that seeks to hire thousands of overseas Filipino workers in mainland China.

DOLE Undersecretary Dominador Say said China wants to recruit around 100,000 house helpers who will all be assigned to five major cities including the Chinese capital Beijing. Other locations include Shanghai and Xiamen, the Manila Bulletin reports.

The pay is also far from shabby, as each individual can earn a starting pay of up to $1,000 (roughly P50,500) per month.

According to Say, the Chinese are mainly considering Filipinos due to their religious and peaceful nature.

Another trait that made them choose Pinoys over other Asian races is their English proficiency. Aside from the regular house duties the job entails, potential employers are also looking to have Filipino helpers teach their children how to speak English.

Representatives from the Chinese government will meet with DOLE officials to formally discuss the specifics of the proposal this September.
