4 things to watch out in the upcoming Food&HotelAsia2016

The 20th international exhibition and conference remains as the premier event for food and hospitality industries in Asia.

There is a growing number of opportunities for Filipino entrepreneurs who are in the food and hospitality industries. It is logically the best time for local businesses to further enhance networks not only in the country but also in the region.


And businesses in the food and hotel industries can find numerous opportunities in the upcoming Food&HotelAsia2016 (FHA2016), which will be held at the Singapore Expo in Singapore from April 12 to 15. Here are what attendees can expect from the biennial event this year.



Trade exhibits

Singapore Exhibition Services is organizing the 4-day exhibit. FHA2016 will bring together over 3,000 exhibitors from all over the world to showcase a range of the latest products and ingredients, equipment, supplies, and best-of-breed services


Among the Filipino organizations and businesses that will showcase their products in the expo are DLA Naturals Inc., Miesto International Foods Corporation, Shanghai Global Corp., and Sweet Serenity Flavoring Syrup. The Department of Agriculture will also lead a group of small businesses from the country.



There will be six specialized categories in the expo: FoodAsia (where the first ever Halal Supermarket will be launched), HotelAsia, SpecialtyCoffee&Tea, Bakery&Pastry, HospitalityStyleAsia, and HospitalityTechnology.

FHA 2016 International Conference

With its aim to be the most definitive knowledge exchange and networking event, this international conference is set to gather this year more than 100 industry professionals to share with the participants insights, best practices, and trends in the hotels and resort management as well as food services and food manufacturing industries.


There will be five masterclasses/workshops and two site tours to ensure unparalleled learning experiences for delegates. And there will be conferences that participants from the hotels and resorts, food services, food manufacturing, and baking sectors can enjoy and learn from. Of course, this also serves as a networking platform to connect with more than 500 other industry players. 



FHA Culinary Challenge (FCC)

The FCC is an international culinary competition that promotes culinary excellence. For several years now, it has been serving as a regional arena for hundreds of budding culinary talents coming from around the world to display their skills and possibly be accredited by a panel consisting of internationally acclaimed chefs.



There will be eight culinary teams that will represent the Philippines in several categories of the biennial competition. Those teams comprise of 41 professional cooks and chefs, culinary students, and teaching staff. Of those, 16 are coming from the Lyceum of the Philippines University, while the others were tapped from the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA, Manila); Coffee Empire; Pacific Apex Food Venture; St. Anne College-Lucena; Vikings Davao; the University of Santo Tomas; and the National Culinary Team (which comprise of winners from the Philippine Culinary Cup held in August 2015).


Apart from FCC, there will be additional competitions targeting specific groups and sectors of the food and hospitality industries, namely: the FHA Barista Challenge 2016, the CTI Latte Art Duel @ FHA, and the Asian Pastry Cup 2016.



Debut of ProWine ASIA 2016

This inaugural 4-day staging will be a networking platform for players in the wine and spirits industry in the region. There will be representation from all relevant wine producing nations and regions, including the “newcomers” to the international wine business. Attendees can also indulge in a myriad of tasting sessions and learn more from educational and interactive master classes, seminars, lectures, and presentations hosted by different industry thought leaders. – with a report from James Humarang
