Hotel, casino on the rise

The eighth richest man in the country, Enrique Razon Jr eyes to build a hotel and casino in Vertis North, Quezon City, similar to his company’s flagship Solaire in Parañaque City.

Razon’s Bloomberry Resorts Corporation told the Philippine Stock Exchange that it will build its second hotel and casino in the Philippines starting 2017.

The mixed-use development will rise on a 15,676-square-meter land that Bloomberry, through its Sureste Properties Incorporated (SPI), bought from the National Housing Authority (NHA) for P1.9 billion ($40.51 million).

Under control

The energy department assures the public that power supply is stable throughout summer. And that there is no need for emergency power, especially on Monday, May 9, election day.

"We don't see the need for emergency powers because we are managing it," Energy Secretary ZenaidaMonsada said in a briefing on Monday, April 25.

For Luzon, electricity demand on election day could hit an average of 9,000 megawatts (MW) versus 12,000MW of supply, with 3,000MW in reserve.

Despite this, it is not guaranteed that it would be a glitch-free election day given that there are some factors beyond the agency's control, Monsada said. – Lynda C. Corpuz
