New Hospitality School Guarantees Students Get a Job After Graduation

The Dusit Hospitality Management College says 99 percent of its graduates in Bangkok got job offers

Students dreaming of a career in hospitality may consider enrolling in the just-opened Dusit Hospitality Management College (DHMC) this year. Co-owned by Thailand-based Dusit International and a number of Filipino investors, the school will initially offer a four-year bachelor’s degree in hospitality management as well as short courses under its Professional Advancement Center (PAC).



“There is a huge potential to boost tourism in the country and we want to give Filipinos the right education in order to answer the needs of this growing industry,” said Evelyn Singson, president and vice chairperson of Philippine Hoteliers Inc., which owns the Dusit brand in the country. “We want to (produce) professionals who can immediately assume supervisory positions and compete with the best anywhere in the world.”


Singson said DHMC is about 40-percent owned by Dusit International while the remaining 60 percent is split between Filipino shareholders. Some of these investors include former Senator Manny Villar, Bert Bravo of Ubix and Ricky Sy of Regent Foods and a few others.


Singson added that they invested “a lot” for DHMC.


“We (Dusit International) put in about Php430 million, and the (other) investors gave about Php900 million. Plus we plan to add about Php400 million more. So it really is a huge investment. But we’re in it for the long term. Besides, education isn’t a bad investment.”

According to Lars Eltvik, managing director of DHMC, what makes the college different from other hospitality schools in the country is its partnership with two internationally recognized names in hospitality: École Hôtelière de Lausanne, one of the oldest and best hospitality schools in the world, and France’s Institut Paul Bocuse.


Eltvik said the partnerships with both institutions ensure that students are given actual, real-world training and practical knowledge to better prepare them for the demands of the hospitality industry.


“We are the only hospitality management college in this part of the world that offers a fully integrated learning experience where culinary and hotel management modules studied in theory can be experienced on the job in actual hotel operations,” he said. “In all areas of the hotel operations, students will be mentored by some of the industry’s best hoteliers and restaurateurs.”


When asked if they can guarantee employment for the school’s graduates, both Singson and Eltvik cited the DHMC school in Bangkok, where 99 percent of the graduates have job offers.



The DHMC campus is located in the 27-story dusitD2 Hotel in The Fort Manila, near SM Aura in Taguig City. The college will be located in the first nine floors, the 120-room hotel will occupy the next five floors, and the rest of the floors are reserved as private residences under the Dusit brand.


In addition to the four-year BS Hospitality management course, DHMC will also offer short courses under the PAC. These include culinary programs, executive development and even English-language programs geared towards professionals in the hospitality business.

Eltvik also said the school is planning to extend merit-based scholarships at up to 50 percent of the tuition for outstanding students.


“What we hope to do is to raise the bar of hospitality education in the country,” Singson said.
