MANILA, Philippines – The International Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Awards mark its first decade with a new award category, “Participants Choice: Most Popular Team Leader Award.”

“We want to increase member participation and also to make things more fun and exciting,” The Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham) President Julian Payne said in a press conference, Wednesday, February 3.

The nominees under the new category will be chosen from the companies nominated from the other 13 categories. Each nominated company can nominate one team leader.  Other categories include Best Company of the Year, Best Employer of the Year, and Best Filipino-owned Company of the Year, with the latter hoping to boost the confidence of local players in the industry.

This is the only category where the winner will be chosen by the public through online voting from February 15 to March 15. By Tuesday, March 22 at the ICT Awards gala night, the top six would be released and voting through text will ensue. The nominee with most text votes will win.

The award-giving body recorded an all-time high of 109 nominees this year for different categories.

The judging panel is composed of seven unnamed personalities, each representing the industry, stakeholders, the academe, and the government. CanCham also made sure representatives from Visayas and Mindanao are also included.

“We want to keep the integrity of the ICT Awards that’s why we make sure to keep things proper and fair. We choose not to disclose the members of the judges to avoid undue influence,” Payne explained.

“The BPO industry is highly competitive, especially with other countries. We want to keep the best in the Philippines, and the best way to do so is by showcasing them,” Payne added.

The ICT Awards is organized by CanCham with the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP).
