SERDEF launches search for next big MSME brand

To celebrate Small Enterprise Month, the Small Enterprises Research and Development Foundation (SERDEF) has launched its Brand Slam for Micro and Small Businesses contest, a search for the next big small brand.

The contest, which runs from July 1 to August 15, aims to highlight the importance of branding in growing a business especially among small enterprises and to inspire more entrepreneurs to adopt branding as a marketing strategy.

It is open to all micro and small businesses – defined as those employing less than 50 workers – anywhere in the country. Those enterprises may have just launched or are about to launch a brand name.

At stake are:  P25,000 for the grand prize winner and P10,000 each to three runner-up winners.

The following are the contest mechanics:

(1)    To join, a business owner/manager is required to submit the following:

•    A photo or illustration of the actual brand name
•    A photo or illustration of the products and services to which the brand name will be applied
•    A brief discussion of how the brand name came about and how it is expected to contribute to the success of the business.
•    A short history and profile of the business---to include date set up, name(s) of owner(s)  and milestones in the growth of the business (may be in bullet form).

(2)    The above requirements should be emailed to serdefbrandslam@gmail.com or sent by post to: BRAND SLAM, Small Enterprises Research and Development Foundation. 3rd F, UP ISSI Building, Diliman, Quezon City.

(3)    Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges based on:

•    The general criteria of a good brand: memorable, meaningful, likeable, transferable, and adaptable
•    An assessment of how the brand is expected to contribute to the business, as described by the owner.

(4)    The winners will be announced by August 30.  The decision of the judges will be final.
