By Press Release |

The Spark Project, a rewards-based Filipino crowdfunding community, is opening its doors to the next batch of projects to crowdfund. Spark Open 2015 aims to find, help and host local, creative, innovative and passion-driven projects on its website.

In 2014 alone, 22,252 projects were successfully funded and over $529 million was pledged in Kickstarter, arguably the top crowdfunding platform in the United States. In the same year, it is estimated that over $16.2 billion have been pledged worldwide compared to $6.1 billion in 2013. The strong growth in 2014 is due to the rise of Asia as a major crowdfunding region.

Crowdfunding in the Philippines is on the rise. The Spark Project is one of the first rewards-based crowdfunding platforms and has raised over P2.1 million for 21 projects to date, with two projects still ongoing. Some of the more successful projects include: Kawil Tour Boat (raised P368,000), Gugu Handwoven Backpacks (raised P281,000), and Gouache Waxed Canvas Goods (raised P184,900).

“We believe Filipinos can produce awesome work. Through the Spark Open 2015 we hope to discover more of these innovators and help them get their ideas off the ground through crowdfunding,” says Patch Dulay, founder of The Spark Project.

The Spark Open 2015 is looking for awesome ideas under these categories: arts; music and film; travel and culture; social and community projects; fashion and product design; science and technology; food and beverage; and books and publishing. All applicants will be guided along the following three stages, with expert advice from crowdfunding consultants and former projects.

Stage 1: Apply

Applicants must create and submit their awesome ideas on Spark Open’s online application page ( where the applicant will pitch his idea to the team. The Spark Project team will then verify and screen all proposals to make sure it follows the terms and guidelines. The best ideas will move on to the next stage.

Stage 2: Unlock

Screened applicants that qualify to this stage will be given access to an online facility where they can have their projects ‘unlocked.’ This stage will run for 2 weeks and lets the crowd validate each project; measuring demand and feasibility of a successful campaign. Each project needs 50 supporters to qualify for the next stage.

Stage 3: Sparkathon

The Sparkathon is a crowdfunding campaign hackathon aimed at helping the validated projects to create and launch their crowdfunding campaigns. Projects that reach this stage will be given access to the platform and design their campaign pitch, video, and rewards within 24 hours. Special prizes will be given to the winners.

The application period is only until May 15, 2015.For more information on Spark Open 2015 visit or send an email to .
