Majority of the companies that manufacture the popular food items that Filipinos traditionally consume during the holiday season are local companies. Out of the 24 manufacturers of Noche Buena goods whose prices are closely monitored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), 15 are local companies. Only nine are foreign firms.
Universal Robina Corporation (URC), a subsidiary of John Gokongwei Jr.’s JG Summit Holdings, leads the list in terms or revenues and net income. Its parent company sales of Php69.27 billion in 2014, its latest available year, are three times more than Century Pacific Food’s Php19.8 billion in 2015, the second on the list. As well, URC’s profits stood at Php5.26 billion—also three times more than Alaska Milk Corp.’s Php1.58 billion in 2015.
