Online job portal named Manila Electric Company (Meralco), the Philippines' largest distributor of electrical power, as the top company “Filipinos aspire to work for” in 2017.

This is the first time the private distribution utility company made it to the list. The Top Companies Report was first introduced in 2014, marking its third release this year. The initial report only featured five firms instead of 10.

Multinational companies dominated the reports for the first three years, but this year’s results show an equal division of multinational (5) and local (5) firms.

PLDT Inc., the country’s largest telecommunications company, is another newcomer that made it to the list this year at ninth place. Dropped from last year’s list are Ayala Corp. subsidiary Ayala Land Inc., Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines and Henry Sy’s SM Investments Corp. Unilever Philippines, which made it to the 2015 list but was not included last year, made a comeback at 10th place this year.

In contrast to last year’s results, revealed that job security is the main factor Filipino jobseekers look for in choosing companies they apply in. Last year, the main consideration was salary.

Apart from the top 10 rankings, this year’s edition also included awards for regional and corporate categories.

For the regional category, the awardees are Bank of the Philippine Islands for Central Luzon, Shell companies in the Philippines for CALABARZON and Aboitiz Group for Central Visayas. For the corporate category, awardees are Shell companies in the Philippines, Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines, SM Investments Corporation, JPMorgan Chase Bank, IBM Business Services and Convergys Philippines.

The leading online job portal in the country conducted a series of surveys, which ran in May 2017. A total of 3,658 users who come from various position levels and different fields of expertise participated.
