Malcolm Gladwell predicted social media advertising would be a fad

But a marketing expert says you just don't need the type of traditional, high-end PR firms behind you anymore to be able to get the word out.

About five years ago, Malcolm Gladwell, author of bestselling books likeThe Tipping Point and Blink, made this prediction, basically writing off the power of social media for businesses: "In about five years, everyone will head back toward traditional advertising."

 

According to these business professionals featured here on C1 Revolutionincluding Vive Bridges, director of events for Moonlight Studios, Fallon Ryan, director of public relations for Lana Jewelry and Anna Treiber, hospitality manager for Henson Consultingthe acclaimed writer was just plain wrong.

 

"You can see what's happened since then," said Bridges. "You just don't need the type of traditional, high-end PR firms behind you anymore to be able to get the word out."
